Phil Burns

Lead Minister

Hi, I’m Phil and I have the massive privilege of being Lead Minister here at SBC alongside a great staff team and group of deacons.

I’m originally from Belfast, N. Ireland and came to England to study at Durham University, where I met my wife, Helen. She brought me to Skipton, where I initially worked as a teacher before starting as Youth Minister at SBC in 2001. I then trained in general ministry and was ordained and called to be Associate Minister here in 2012. The church appointed me as Lead Minister in September 2021.

Being here for over twenty years has been a real joy and an exciting challenge. So much has changed but I really believe the best is yet to come for us in the Lord.

I am passionate about teaching the Bible, engaging in worship and helping people in following Jesus; coming to know Him; growing to know Him more and equipping in sharing with others the great news of having a relationship with Him. I love to see people ‘having a go’ for Jesus and seeing where His adventure takes them.

I’m married to Helen (our Messy Hands manager) and we have four children. Alongside church life, I love rugby (especially Ireland and Ulster); watching movies and sitting around a firepit with friends and food.
